Food standards for New Zealand are established and maintained by a joint Trans-Tasman authority: Food Standards Australia New Zealand aka FSANZ Home (foodstandards.gov.au)
This includes the Food Standards Code.
The main standards that apply to food allergens are:
- Standard 1.2.3 clause 4, which establishes Mandatory declarations of certain foods
- Standard 1.2.1 which establish the requirements for food to have labels or otherwise information to be provided.
- The list of food allergens that are required to be declared as per these standards, is listed in Schedule 9 – 3.
